Alphonso Davies diagnosed with myocarditis after Covid-19 recovery

Julian Nagelsmann confirmed the Bayern Munich star would not be considered for selection

Alphonso Davies has been diagnosed with myocarditis and will not be considered for first-team selection at Bayern Munich over the coming weeks. The Athletic have reported that the Bayern Munich left-back has yet to return to action following his recovery from Covid-19 after the medical staff detected signs of heart inflammation in the 21-year-old. Davies was one of nine Bayern Munich players to test positive for Covid-19 after the return from the winter break which takes place in Germany. The Canadian international missed Bayern's first game back in the Bundesliga last week - a 2-1 defeat to Borussia Mochengladbach, and his boss Julian Nagelsmann confirmed his return won't be anytime soon. https://twitter.com/TheAthleticUK/status/1481964106286616581 "Yesterday, during our follow-up examination that we do with every player that has had Covid-19, we detected signs of mild myocarditis, i.e. an inflammation of the heart muscle," the Bayern boss explained. "He has stopped training for now, so he won't be available to us for the next weeks. "This myocarditis isn't too dramatic based on the ultrasound, but more simply signs of an inflammation. Nevertheless, it needs to heal and that will no doubt take some time." As of yet, there's been no set date scheduled for Davies' return, but he will not return for this weekend's game against Koln, whilst upcoming games against Hertha Berlin, RB Leipzig and VFL Bochum may also come too soon. The 21-year-old is also almost certainly expected to miss Canada's vital World Cup qualification matches, which are due to take place in the next three weeks. Related links:
