Rangers legend Andy Goram told he has six months left to live with terminal cancer

Rangers legend Andy Goram has revealed that he has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and that he has just six months left to live. As reported by the Daily Record, the former Scotland goalkeeper has decided against the use of chemotherapy after doctors told him that it would only give him an extra 12 weeks to live. The 58-year-old said that he first began to feel unwell around seven weeks ago. He was struggling to eat and drink and initially thought he was suffering from heartburn. Rangers legend Andy Goram has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Goram, however, ignored the early symptoms after he failed to get a face-to-face appointment with his local GP, before his condition worsened. He realised the severity of the illness when medical staff advised his family to attend. "I thought I had severe indigestion. It was as though my gullet was blocked. After a few weeks, it got worse and nothing was getting through," he said. "Everything I ate or drank didn’t get halfway to my stomach and I threw it back up. I couldn’t get a face-to-face with my GP for two weeks, by which time I was in total agony. I’d also lost 4st in four weeks. "I had a CT scan at Monklands, then was rushed to Wishaw General and told my next of kin should be with me. That is when the alarm bells started ringing. I realised I had cancer." But Goram has insisted he will do everything to battle the disease, saying that he will "fight like I’ve never fought before."

Goram: 'Chemotherapy is off the menu.'

Goram was diagnosed with stage four oesophageal cancer and explained why he wouldn't take up the option of chemotherapy, citing the problems his ex-wife suffered when receiving treatment. "The specialist said if I take the chemotherapy, I’ve an average of nine months to go – an average," he said. "If I don’t take the chemo, I have an average of six. "After seeing what it did to Miriam, my decision was made after chats with her and Danny [Goram's son]. "Take chemotherapy and be in agony for the sake of an extra three months and zero quality of life? No thanks. Chemotherapy is off the menu."

Goram played for Rangers between 1991 and 1998 and helped the Ibrox club win five Scottish league titles. He was also named Scottish Player of the Year for his performances in the 1992/93 season. Goram won 43 caps for Scotland.
