Liverpool dealt injury scare with Andy Robertson a doubt for Scotland game

Their entire back four are currently injured.

Liverpool have been dealt yet another injury scare after Andy Robertson picked up an injury while playing for Scotland against Serbia in their victorious Euro 2020 qualifier. Scotland manager Steve Clarke today confirmed that Robertson has picked up a hamstring problem.

"Andy Robertson is the most doubtful out of the ones who have a wee question mark over them," Clarke said ahead of Sunday's game.

Left-back is thankfully one position where Liverpool actually have a fit back-up option in Konstantinos Tsimikas, but it is a huge worry nonetheless, with Liverpool's other three starting defenders all ruled out through injury. Virgil Van Dijk suffered an ACL injury in the Merseyside derby in mid-October, before Fabinho, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold all joined him on the treatment table in the subsequent weeks. Joel Matip is now Liverpool's only fit, senior centre-back, and the Reds have already reportedly identified Olympiacos centre-back Ruben Semedo as a transfer target for January. The extent of Robertson's injury is understood to be minor, with the left-back expected to miss Scotland's match against Slovakia. Jurgen Klopp will be hoping he recovers in time for a tough game against Leicester City next weekend, or he may have to hand Tsimikas his Liverpool debut. Robertson played 120 minutes before a nail-biting penalty shoot-out on Thursday night, as David Marshall stepped up to save Aleksander Mitrović's penalty to send Scotland to their first tournament since the 1998 World Cup in France. The Scots will host four matches at Euro 2020 at their national team stadium Hampden Park in Glasgow.
