Anthony Martial should be a ‘second or third choice’ for Manchester United, claims Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes was not a happy man after watching Manchester United slump to a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Speaking to Jamie Carragher after the game, Scholes expressed his surprise at Louis van Gaal opting to start with Marouane Fellaini and Morgan Schneiderlin in midfield instead of Michael Carrick. He also wasn't one bit ecstatic about Juan Mata being selected as captain. The full interview, which appears in the Daily Mail also sees Scholes question whether Anthony Martial, despite his obvious talent, is worthy of a regular starting role for the club. "Martial is a young player who will become a top centre forward," Scholes explains. "But, as a 20-year-old, he is a second or third choice." Since arriving from Monaco in the summer, Martial has been a rare bright point in an otherwise disappointing season for United, who look to reach the FA Cup semi-finals when they face West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday.
