Barcelona move another step closer to leaving La Liga

Things might be about to get a bit lonely for Real Madrid in La Liga.

The Catalan independence movement received a massive boost as its local parliament voted in favour of succession from Spain on Monday. Back in September the head of La Liga, Javier Tebas, said that Barcelona would not be allowed to compete in the Spanish league, saying: "They would not be able to play in La Liga because legislation would not allow it." But some believe that the independence of Catalunya could be the catalyst for a cross-continental super league involving Europe's top teams. Only time will tell.
