Brendan Rodgers was far from humble after Celtic gained Lincoln Red Imps revenge

Brendan Rodgers appealed for calm after his Celtic team were beaten 1-0 last week. He was anything but, last night, as Celtic gained revenge.

Lincoln Red Imps' reign of terror is over. Celtic beat the Gibraltrians 3-0 to progress to the final Champions League qualifying round. Mikael Lustig, Patrick Roberts and Leigh Griffiths were the goalscorers as the minnows were well beaten on the night. Having told Celtic supporters not to panic, after the first leg, Rodgers had a Zen air about him. He did not hesitate in telling his club's website just how dominant his men were:

"I thought the intensity was outstanding in the team, our pressing and ability to force mistakes and then get goals... "We scored three and their goalkeeper probably stopped it maybe being double figures but we’re through and that’s the most important thing."

Rodgers also added that his team were nowhere near their best. Something that probably should have been addressed with Champions League football, and all the money it brings, on the line. He said:

"We’re only four weeks into pre-season so I wouldn’t expect us to be anywhere near top gear, but I think there was some fluency and structural things within the team that was very pleasing."
