Chelsea are in talks to leave Stamford Bridge and move to Earls Court in an aim to increase stadium capacity, as per a breaking report from the Guardian.
Currently with a capacity of 42,000, owners want to increase this as a huge priority. However, it has proven difficult to enhance the current Stamford Bridge, leaving the club looking for a new site in west London.
As a result, discussions have been held with Transport for London, one of the main partners that take care of the current Earls Court site.
Despite this, The Earl’s Court Development Committee (ECDC) wants to build a mixed-use development and no football stadium is included in its proposed plan, which will be showcased next week to Hammersmith and Fulham council and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea council.
The ECDC thereby would become a major obstacle for Chelsea, should they receive planning permissions.
Chelsea are understood to have thought of plans and to want the Lillie Bridge depot as the area on which to build.
Chelsea would need an agreement with Chelsea Pitch Owners before any potential developments, as they hold the freehold of Stadium Bridge stadium and could prevent attempts to move.
Staying at Stamford Bridge is yet to be ruled out, although redeveloping the stadium has proven difficult.
Should they knock down Stamford Bridge, a temporary home would be needed - which likely would be Wembley.
