Christian Eriksen’s Inter Milan contract terminated by mutual consent

Christian Eriksen's contract at Inter Milan has been terminated by mutual consent, the Italian champions have confirmed. Eriksen has been out of action since suffering cardiac arrest when representing Denmark in their opening game of Euro 2020 in the summer.

The former Tottenham midfielder has since been fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), which regulates any changes in his heartbeat. He was informed that he was not permitted to resume his playing career in Italy due to Serie A rules which prevent players who are fitted with the device from playing in the league. His departure from Inter has seemed inevitable for months and has now been confirmed in a statement from the club. Eriksen has been training alone with his first club in Denmark.

The 29-year-old has recently been training alone at Odense Boldklub (OB), the team he spent three years with as a youngster. There is no suggestion that his departure from Inter will mark the end of his playing career, with some reports having claimed that Ajax, the club from which he joined Tottenham, are interested in re-signing him.
