Concern has been raised for a Real Madrid star player "who may never play football again" according to reports in Spain.
David Alaba joined Real Madrid from German giants Bayern Munich in 2021 where he has enjoyed a trophy-laden three years, playing 102 times for the Spanish club.
However, the Austrian's time in Madrid has been somewhat marred by injury and suffered a cruciate ligament tear in late 2023, not playing since.
Meanwhile it has been reported that his latest problem could be career ending for the 32-year-old.
According to large Spanish radio station and news site based in Madrid Onda Cero, the Austrian has reduced cartilage in his knee causing the bones to rub together.
Because cartilage does not grow back on its own and is difficult to treat and extremely painful.
This has ultimately led to concerns that the player may not be able to return to professional football.
At just 32 this would be considered an early retirement for a player considered one of the best of his generation and the best ever from his nation.
Alaba has won Austrian player of the year 10 times while has four Champions Leagues to his name, 10 Bundesliga titles, and two La Liga titles.
