Cork City let a 1-0 lead slip in their 2-1 loss to Waterford on Monday night in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
Alex Nolan opened the scoring early on for the away side, but Padraig Amond levelled the game after the break, before Kyle White sealed the victory on 87 minutes.
While the game was still at 1-1, Cork's Freddie Anderson received a second yellow card, but boss Tim Clancy felt that his side should have been awarded a free-kick in the build-up to the red card.
In his post-match interview, Clancy fumed at the performance of referee Damien McGraith:
"I thought Damien was really poor today to be honest."
Clancy was also sent off after the final whistle, receiving two yellow cards and then a red in quick succession, and he revealed the extraordinary exchange between himself and McGraith.
The Cork boss added: "I said to Damien after the game, 'I thought you were shocking.'
"And what he said back to me was an absolute disgrace, he said 'Well I thought your team were shocking.'
"That's a match official who was supposed to be officiating the game. I then said 'That's your ego getting the better of you,' and he gave me two yellow cards and sent me off."
