Daily Record back page lays bare ‘shame’ of Scotland’s loss to England

Scotland went into their World Cup qualifier with England with cautious optimism.

Their opponents were top of their group, but had scored just three games in their three games against Slovakia, Malta and Slovenia. Gordon Strachan's team had the opportunity to overtake their oldest rivals with victory at Wembley, given their goal difference an early boost with a 5-1 win in Malta. But things didn't go to plan, with headed goals from Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill handing the hosts victory, even if the scoreline flattered the hosts. While England fans were full of praise for the Three Lions, and their papers followed suit, it was a different situation as far as Scotland were concerned. However, the former Celtic boss would not be drawn on his future, saying after the game that now was "not the time" to think about it.
