Dani Alves taken into custody in Spain for alleged sexual assault

Dani Alves has been arrested in Barcelona in connection with an alleged sexual assault that took place in one of the city's nightclubs in December. Alves has been accused by one female of groping her with the La Vanguardia newspaper reporting that the 39-year-old denies any wrongdoing. A spokesman for the Mossos d'Esquadra Catalan police force told The Telegraph that the full back had been arrested on Friday morning after he had been questioned about the alleged sexual assault. "Now he has been taken to court where a judge will also question him and then decide on what measures to take; he could be remanded in custody or released on bail," they said. After being questioned by the force at the Les Corts police station in Barcelona, Alves was then taken away and driven to the city's courthouse complex in a Mossos patrol car. According to reports, the alleged victim of the sexual assault - who can't be named for legal reasons - told police that Alves put his hand inside her underwear at the Sutton nightclub on the night of December 30. She is then believed to have notified security staff in the club, who promptly activated Barcelona city council’s protocol against assaults and sexual harassment. Mossos d'Esquadra officers arrived at the scene and took a statement from the woman in question, by which time Alves had left the club. As per member's of the former Barcelona defenders entourage, as quoted by ABC, Alves denies any wrongdoing, saying that he was at the nightclub briefly but "nothing happened." Related links:
