David De Gea gives his reaction to being given the Manchester United captain’s armband

Just 24 days on from the clusterflock that was his non-transfer to Real Madrid, David De Gea captained Manchester United.

Bastian Schweinsteiger's gesture did not go unnoticed. With 10 minutes to go and United leading Ipswich 2-0, Louis van Gaal withdrew Wayne Rooney for Memphis Depay. The United skipper sought out Schweinsteiger to hand over the armband but the German, in turn, jogged towards De Gea. Schweinsteiger's move drew a warm round of applause from the United faithful, despite the fact that the Spaniard was on the brink of joining Real on August 31.
