Dundalk players will not be paid this week as new owners finalise takeover

The squad have agreed to the deferral.

The League of Ireland club were scarily close to going out of business this week, but were rescued in the final hour by local barrister John Temple who swung in on Monday evening and seized control.

The club's previous owner Brian Ainscough set a September 16 deadline for a bid to be made after amassing debts believed to add up to the region of €1.5 million.

Temple, along with other members of a consortium, pledged funds to keep the club operational until the end of the season.

Dundalk are battling to avoid relegation from the Premier Division, sitting bottom of the table with six games remaining.

In a reported meeting with players before training this morning, Temple said that he wasn’t in a position to pay their wages for this week, attributing the delay to the timing of his takeover.

He also assured the squad that there would be no issues from next week onwards.

According to the Irish Independent, the players agreed to the deferral.

Considering all squad and stuff were on the brink of losing their jobs at the beginning of the week, a week delay on their wages must hardly feel like an issue.

Jon Daly’s side already had their salaries delayed earlier this month as a result of a mishap by Ainscough, so they'll be hoping the new short-term ownership will keep things steady for the time-being.
