Edinson Cavani “angry” at racism ban and wants to leave Man United

The Uruguayan's stay in England could be short-lived

Edinson Cavani's days as a Manchester United player appear numbered, at least according to the player's father. The Uruguayan inked a one-year deal at Old Trafford at the start of the current campaign with the option of a one-year extension. However, his father, Luis, claims Cavani is unhappy in England and is eyeing a potential return to South America to be closer to his family, having already been in contact with Boca Juniors. The 34-year-old is also said to be angry at the ban he received earlier in the season for the use of a racist word in one of his social media posts. "My son is not happy in England and wants to return nearer his family," the player's father is quoted as saying to Argentine football programme Superfutbol. "He wants to play in South America. "I want Edinson to play for a team which fights for important trophies. He has had many conversations with Riquelme [Boca's current vice-president] and would like to play for Boca. "At the halfway point of the year, he’d like to return to South America. My son’s idea is not to continue there. He wants to return. "I think he's going to come back in June this year. He has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave in June." Discussing the suspension he received, Luis added:

"There are things which sometimes annoy us as humans, as people, the whole 'n*grito' ban issue annoyed him. "That has been playing on him, sometimes players can't find form either, these things can weigh heavy on you. Sometimes mentally you can get dragged down."

Should Cavani decide to leave Old Trafford, United would almost certainly need to add another striker to their ranks in time for next season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently confirmed he is still in contact with Erling Haaland, who he coached during his time at Molde. Haaland is being eyed by a host of Europe's top clubs, with some reports claiming he could be available to leave Borussia Dortmund as soon as this summer.
