Standard Liege were forced into some DIY customisation of their home jerseys before a league match yesterday because it clashed with their opponents' kit. Apparently, nobody bothered to see if this might be a problem before the game.
Belgian Pro League outfit Charleroi showed up to match in their usual predominantly white “zebra stripes” kit, and the officials deemed that the white panels on Liege's home shirts (pictured above) might cause them confusion.
The logical solution to this problem would be to change into their away strip, right? Wrong. Apparently, Standard were unwilling to switch to their black away kit for sponsorship reasons.
The club had the rather primitive idea of getting the players cover up the white sections on their jersey with strips of duct tape. It's highly doubtful that these ghastly "new and improved" jerseys will be big sellers in the Standard Liege club shop.
