The Football Association have said they will investigate the tweet made by Nottingham Forest's social media account moments after their defeat to Everton.
In a game that was vital for both sides' quest to avoid relegation it was the hosts who emerged as 2-0 winners thanks to long range efforts from Idrissa Geuye and Dwight McNeil in either half.
It didn't tell the whole tale though as Forest could have easily been awarded at least three penalties - one of the most notable being what looked like a clear handball from Ashley Young in the first half.
Forest, who have previously voiced their concerns with VAR, released a strong statement straight after the full time whistle in which they condemned the PGMOL and insisted that they will not let them get away with it.
It said: "Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept. We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options."
In light of the sensational claim from the Forest account, The Independent have reported that the FA will investigate the tweet as it "calls into question the integrity of the game".
Jamie Carragher has labelled Forest's statement after their defeat to Everton as "embarrassing".
Reacting to the statement after the game, Carragher slammed the Forest social media accounts for their unprofessionalism.
"It tells you where we are in the Premier League when clubs are doing that," he said on Sky Sports.
"Stuart Attwell and Anthony Taylor have had a horrific day and they should be criticised as it could have real implications. But that, what I've just read there on social media. That's like a fan in a pub.
"That is embarrassing.
"I get the frustration. That rubbish about the VAR being a Luton fan - they can't get involved in that. You've got to show a little bit of class as a football club."
The win for Sean Dyche's side means they are now five points clear of the bottom three while Forest remain just a point above Luton Town.
Burnley are also closing the gap after their win against Sheffield United on Saturday and face Forest on the final day of the season.
