Manchester United midfielder Fred was sent off as Erik ten Hag's side were defeated 1-0 by Atletico Madrid in Norway. United were playing the penultimate game of their preseason in Oslo, on Saturday afternoon. As United looked to level the scores, Fred - already on a yellow card - brought Alvaro Morata on halfway. Debut for Christian Eriksen

The referee responded by giving Fred a second yellow card, leaving United to finish the game with 10 men. Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay also picked up bookings in the game. Earlier in the second half United had given a debut to Christian Eriksen after his arrival on a free transfer was confirmed earlier in the week. Lisandro Martinez was named on the bench but did not feature. Erik ten Hag started Anthony Martial up front, with Anthony Elanga and Marcus Rashford supporting him. Donny van de Beek, Facundo Pellestri and James Garner also got second half run-outs as ten Hag looked to keep United as fresh as possible.
