Gary Neville defends the signing of Ireland striker Adam Rooney

Former Manchester United captain and Salford City co-owner Gary Neville has defended the club's acquisition of Republic of Ireland striker Adam Rooney.

Rooney joined Salford City on Thursday and signed  a three-year deal believed to be worth about £4,000 per week. "I've been there [Aberdeen] for four-and-a-half years and I had a great time and I really enjoyed it but I just felt that it was time for a change. "When I heard about the interest from Salford it was something that really intrigued me and I wanted to have a look at it. After speaking to the manager and the people involved, and the ambition of the club, it was something that I really wanted to be apart of."
