Hollywood superstar Naomi Watts to become president of Welsh non-League side

Not many non-league sides boast a president who's also a double Oscar nominee.

However, soon Glantraeth FC, who play in the third tier Welsh Alliance football league division one will be able to. The club announced that Naomi Watts, star of films such as Mulholland Drive, King Kong, 21 Grams, and of course, Babe: Pig in the City has agreed to become the club's honourary president. After former president Sir George Meyrick stepped down from the position last August, secretary Stan Strickland suggested the Hollywood actress as his replacement. Watts spent time on her grandparents’ farm near the small town as a child. Strickland sent a letter to her agent and received a positive response this week, as BBC report.

"She spent three years of her childhood here and attended school in Llangefni before becoming a major film star. "I just thought 'if you don't ask, you don't get'. "She has now got her publicist involved, so we could end up in the New York Times."

Discussions are set to continue between Watts and the club about how involved she would be as president, but Strickland explained that her name will appear on the website, letterheads and match day programmes.
