Ireland creator Finn Azaz scored two and set up another as Middlesbrough hammered Luton Town 5-1 earlier today in the EFL Championship.
Azaz, who is in the Ireland squad to take on Finland and England next week, has been a mainstay in Michael Carrick's side this season and now comes into the international break brimming with confidence.
Middlesbrough led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Delano Burgzorg and Emmanuel Lath, but it was the second half when Azaz really came into his own to stick the boot into Luton.
The 24-year-old angled his first strike home in the 51st minute; before adding his second and Middlesbrough's fifth in the 87th minute to complete the rout.
The second goal was especially impressive as he cut back inside from the left side of the box and unleashed a venomous effort into the top right of the Luton net.
Azaz was an important player in Ireland's 2-1 victory away to Finland last month and looks poised to play a big role under new gaffer Heimir Hallgrimsson.
Speaking to the press after that Robbie Brady-inspired win, Azaz explained how the Iceland native has given him confidence to perform in the green jersey:
“I don’t think he is treating me as a young player any more, I am 24 now, so I need to take responsibility," said Azaz.
“He said he's seen me play at my club and in my position, albeit it's a different team and philosophy and stuff.
"So just to try and help us create chances, get on the ball, use my movement, use my passing.
“He's putting trust in me as a player, putting me in positions and then it's up to me to do the job for him."
If he could produce a similar performance against England next Sunday, his name would go down in Irish folklore forever.
But first, there's a chance to take six points from six against Finland this coming Thursday at the Aviva Stadium.
The kick-off time for that one is 7.45pm.
