James McClean has joined Wrexham on a one-year deal

Well nobody saw that coming.

Ireland's James McClean has finalised a move from his current club Wigan, to Wrexham, the League Two side funded by Hollywood. Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham when it was in the non-league tier of football, and in struggling to recover from financial issues that stretch back to the start of the millennium. The Deadpool movie star and It's Always Sunny actor, have turned the club's fortunes around, and even documented it in the hit Disney Plus documentary Welcome to Wrexham. They renovated the stadium, created jobs for volunteers, and spent big money on footballers such as Paul Mullin, who were playing division above Wrexham. A statement by Wrexham, this evening, reads:

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign for Wrexham. It’s a project that is very exciting and I’m looking forward to being a part of it. “The club has ambitions to go even further, and I’m a very ambitious person. I’m someone who is driven and I want to be a part of that journey.”

Following their promotion to the world of real professional football, they are on the hunt for experienced professional footballers, and it seems their attention has turned to McClean. The Republic of Ireland star has experience in the Premier League, Championship and League One - not to mention clocking up 100 caps for his country. The Derry native is a big name, and although he isn't always in the papers for the right reasons, the tricky winger is versatile, unorthodox and could be a real asset for Wrexham. At 34 years of age, McClean is in the twilight of his career, and has been linked with a move away from Wigan all summer. Blackpool were reportedly interested in the midfielder, while he himself has openly confessed his interest of playing for Celtic one day, the team that he supported as a child.  However, Wrexham were in pole position to get his signature, and we might see him on Disney Plus very soon.
