Jamie Carragher’s criticism of Andre Onana backed up by worrying statistic

Man United fell to yet another defeat at home to Brighton this afternoon.

Andre Onana conceded a further three goals this afternoon as Man United fell to yet another defeat, this time at home to high-flying Brighton. The Red Devils have been front and centre of the media spotlight over the last number of weeks, from Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag's very pubic spat, to Harry Maguire's form for club and country. But prior to today's clash, former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher saw another issue which needed addressing- the United goalkeeping situation. Responding to an article written by Guardian journalist Barney Ronay which defended Andre Onana's public dressing-down of Harry Maguire, Carragher tweeted;

"I'm well aware of Onana being demonstrative at all his clubs, and I like the fact he communicates. But to carry on like that in a pre-season game when you've been at the club 2 minutes, to the club captain, was way over the top. "Any player worth their salt (Keane, Vidic, Rio, Stam... and me!) would have told him where to go and to get back to his goal. I felt he was trying far too hard to show fans what he was about. "The point was Maguire is that broken that he didn't say anything back, when he was well within his rights to do so."

The worrying statistic backing up Andre Onana criticism:

Man United have now failed to keep a clean sheet in all but one of their Premier League fixtures so far this season, with Onana himself starting all five games. Only managing to keep Wolves scoreless on a the opening day, Erik ten Hag's side have gone on to concede twice against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest, before conceding three in successive games against both Arsenal and Brighton, leaving them languishing in 12th place. So far, the former Inter Milan keeper has directly faced 11 shots on target, with eight resulting in goals for the opposition, meaning that Onana currently holds a save percentage of under 30%. With United shelling out in excess of €50 million for the Cameroonian international, fans will be hoping that Onana can break this run of poor form ahead of their midweek Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.
