Jermaine Jenas has broken his silence after being sacked by the BBC.
Speaking to The Sun, he stated that he is "ashamed" and has "let everybody down" following his dismissal.
He informed the paper that he sent "inappropriate messages" to two colleagues on The One Show, however he emphasised that they were "nothing illegal" and that the messages were sent to "two consenting adults".
Jenas, the former Match of the Day and The One Show host had his contract terminated earlier this week for allegedly sending inappropriate messages to a female colleague.
The BBC have not disclosed any further details regarding the allegations against him.
Jenas told The Sun that the texts were a "huge error of judgement" and added that he is "deeply sorry".
He continued: "I feel so ashamed. I've let everybody down - my colleagues, my friends and most importantly, I've let my family down."
A BBC spokesperson stated: "We can confirm Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up."
Jenas also said in the interview he considered what he did "cheating".
"I was given an incredible opportunity and I know it's on me that right now I feel I have lost everything.
"I feel like people are judging me and that I am the number one target right now in the country."
Previously he fronted the MOTDx show aimed at younger audiences which was scrapped last season.
The former England international, who enjoyed spells with Tottenham and Newcastle, moved into punditry in 2016 after he retired due to injury.
Jenas last presented The One Show alongside Alex Jones on 22 July and appeared on the MOTD panel on 4 May.
He worked for the BBC throughout the Euros, acting as co-commentator for Spain’s semi-final victory over France.
