John Terry takes astonishing pay-cut to prolong Chelsea career

Times will be tight at the Terry house-hold next season.

John Terry is set for a similar discussion with his brood following reports of his salary for next season. Terry, who made his senior Chelsea debut in 1998, will turn 36 later this year and was thought to be heading for that lucrative scrap-heap known as the Chinese Super League. A purported £12 million a season deal was in the offing if Terry fancied a move to China but he has opted to stay and fight for his place under new coach Antonio Conte. Terry has taken a massive pay-cut to remain at Stamford Bridge. The Sun report that his weekly stipend of £150,000 has been reduced to £50,000 while The Daily Mail estimate he will take home basic pay of £60,000 each week. There will be team and individual base bonuses thrown in on top so it won't be all prunes, custard and penny loafs over at the Terrys.
