Jose Mourinho hits back at Bayern Munich criticism over Bastian Schweinsteiger

He has a point.

Jose Mourinho hasn't disguised the fact that Bastian Schweinsteiger's chances of playing again for Manchester United are about as remote as Bobby Charlton lining out one more time for the Red Devils. The former Germany captain is no-longer part of the first-team squad, he's free to leave the club and United have bought an upgrade in central midfield in the form of Paul Pogba. Is the treatment of Schweinsteiger harsh? A return to Bayern Munich, who allowed the player to leave last summer, was never really on the cards for the 32-year-old, despite the club's president hitting out at Mourinho's treatment of the player. Karl Heinze Rummennigge said he could "hardly believe" Schweinsteiger's plight at United. "One or two players are going to think long and hard in future about whether they want to go to such a club," the Bayern president said. "Nothing like that has ever happened at Bayern Munich." https://twitter.com/SportsJOEdotie/status/769176103273504768 Mourinho has hit back at those comments in his press conference ahead of Saturday's trip to Hull City. "I thought, when I read some quotes from people at Bayern Munich, they would run to Manchester to bring him back, but no, that didn't happen," the United manager said.

"I'm quite surprised Karl-Heinze Rummennigge is not here to take him back.

He has a point. Bayern didn't appear to be too pushed on keeping Schweinsteiger last summer, and while Rummennigge was appalled by Mourinho's treatment of the player, they weren't prepared to offer him an escape route. Mourinho was also asked if Schweinsteiger has any chance of playing for United again. "I think it's very difficult to happen," Mourinho said.

"I'm not saying it’s impossible, I’m saying its very difficult because we have made a decision made about Pogba, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Fellaini and Carrick, we have five players for two positions, so it's very difficult for an opportunity to arise."

In other words, no.
