“You know why” – Jurgen Klopp refuses to speak to Athletic journalist at press conference

Following Liverpool's 3-0 defeat to Wolves in the Premier League Jurgen Klopp refused to answer questions from a particular journalist from The Athletic. James Pearce is the Liverpool correspondent for the publication, and covers all of the build up, live matches, and post game interviews. It's obviously no secret that the Reds have been struggling, with today's defeat making it their third consecutive loss away from home, something that hasn't happened since 2012. Victory eluded them against Brentford, Brighton and now Wolves, and their problems continue to mount as even more players are added to the injury list including Ibrahima Konate. With the team being in such poor form it is only natural that articles, podcasts, match reports and pundits are focusing more on the negative side of things. However Klopp seems to have taken particular exception to Pearce and his recent coverage of the football club. The journalist was in the middle of asking a question about Liverpool's poor start to matches and whether that was a mentality issue, until the German native interrupted him.

A different reporter then asked the same question to which Klopp replied in detail, seemingly brushing off the whole incident. It isn't the first time that Anfield's spiritual leader has been prickly with journalists, particularly after a defeat, but it is rare that he denies someone an interview entirely. Liverpool play Everton next in the Merseyside derby, a team who have been struggling all season, but found a way to beat the league leaders Arsenal earlier in the day. It was Sean Dyche's first game in charge and he seems to have immediately got a response out of them so it may prove to be a particularly trying game for this Liverpool side low on confidence.
