“You sign a contract and you stick to that contract” – Klopp a man of his word

Didn't take long, did it? For... what, two, maybe three hours? It seemed Jurgen Klopp might have been given the perfect excuse to bid farewell to Liverpool at the end of the season. With his champions enduring a wretched run of league form, news from his homeland confirmed that Joachim Low will stand down as Germany's national team coach after this summer's Euro 2020 (do we still call it Euro 2020?) championships. With recent reports suggesting Klopp might take charge from Low after the Qatar World Cup, it didn't take long for some to jump to very obvious conclusions about what this meant for the Liverpool boss' future on Merseyside... especially with a certain club legend doing a good enough job north of the border to convince some he's already an adequate replacement. Speaking ahead of the Champions League last 16 return leg against RB Leipzig, Klopp was asked directly if he intended to take charge of Die Mannschaft sooner than anyone had anticipated. His response was blunt enough: "Am I available for the job in the summer? No," he said. He later added: "I will not be available as a potential coach for the German team. "I have three years left at Liverpool, don't I? It's simple. You sign a contract and you stick to that contract. I stuck to contracts at Mainz and Dortmund." Despite his response, reports continue to insist Klopp is one of the German FA's leading candidates for the role - even if he appears completely committed to seeing out his current deal at Anfield.
