Jurgen Klopp says his opinion “didn’t change” on Super League

Klopp did not back down on his previous comments about the Super League, despite Liverpool being involved in the planning of the breakaway league

Jurgen Klopp has said that his opinion on the proposed Super League has not changed, despite the news that Liverpool are one of 12 clubs behind plans for the breakaway competition. Klopp has previously made no secret of his opposition to a Super League and, following the news that broke on Sunday, was asked if his feelings had changed before his side played Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday. "My opinion didn’t change [since his comments made in 2019]. We got some information, not a lot, and it’s a tough one. "We were not involved in these processes, as a manager or as players. I have no issues with the Champions League. I like the fact West Ham may play Champions League next year. I like that they have that chance. "The most important part of a football club is the supporters and the team. Nothing can get between that. The players didn't do anything wrong. We want to qualify for the Champions League next year. "I understand (the anger from football fans). I don't know exactly why the 12 clubs did it. The one thing I cannot understand is the competitiveness. I don't like it if we are not in the Champions League, but if we earn it that is right."

Klopp was speaking to Sky Sports as part of their Monday Night Football coverage. Minutes earlier, Gary Neville had given his own explosive assessment of the Glazer family's involvement in the plans, describing them as "scavengers".
