Their Monday morning edition is practically cock-a-hoop at the news that Paul Pogba is joining Manchester United for a world record fee. Not only does the £100m-ish fee reflect well on French football, but the paper originally broke the story back on July 21st.
Their headline proudly reads:
'LA REVANCHE DE POGBA. Le transfert record du milieu de terrain francais de la Juventus a Manchester est acte. Souvent ignore lors de son premier sejour a MU, il revient avec l'aura d'une star.'
...which very roughly translates to...
'POGBA'S REVENGE. The record transfer of the French midfielder from Juventus to Manchester is on. Often ignored during his first stay at United, he returns with the aura of a star.'
That's all well and good, but it's the actual image that's memorable for all the wrong reasons. It shows a giant smiling Pogba in front of an ecstatic United fanbase, no doubt relishing the return of their prodigal son.
Except it's not United fans at all - it's their very different Liverpudlian equivalents. They got the stadium right - the picture is from a game at Old Trafford - but it is Merseyside fans holding a 'Make Us Dream' banner during their 3-0 win in March of 2014.
