Lionel Messi didn’t get Robbie Keane’s vote for the Ballon d’Or

We've no doubt whatsoever that Robbie Keane has a very keen eye for what makes a great footballer.

The Republic of Ireland captain completed his Uefa A coaching badge earlier this week, and as he's such an intelligent footballer, we've no doubt he'll make a fine coach or manager one day. He's also probably forgot more about the game than most of us currently know. However, we have to politely disagree with his choice for the 2015 Ballon d'Or award. The award is decided by votes from the coaches and captain's of international teams, as well as a media representative of the nation, and Keane opted for Cristiano Ronaldo in first place, ahead of winner Lionel Messi in second and his Barcelona teammate Neymar in third.Messi won the award for the fifth time, and also received the nod from Martin O'Neill. However, the Ireland manager selected Eden Hazard in second place, despite the Chelsea winger's patchy form in the second half of the year and Ronaldo was O'Neill's third choice. Ireland's media vote, by journalist Paul Kelly, went for Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo. You can see the full list of votes here.
