Liverpool to bolster midfield with signing of Dominik Szoboszlai

Liverpool look to have beaten Newcastle to the signature of the Bundesliga star.

Jurgen Klopp looks set to add another midfield reinforcement, following the capture of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton earlier in the window, as he finally gets his long-awaited revamp. According to the Athletic, Liverpool are on the brink of landing RB Leipzig and Hungarian attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. The 22-year-old, Linked with the likes of Bayern Munich and Newcastle United perennially over the last number of windows, looks set to depart eastern Germany for Merseyside in the coming days. With a reported release clause of €70 million, it is not yet clear as to whether Liverpool will meet the clause in full or negotiate a slightly lower fee with the German club. The two clubs had already been in dialogue over the course of the window regarding a move for Liverpool attacker Fabio Carvalho, who has joined the German side on loan until the end of the season. Szoboszlai is one of Leipzig's most promising talents, registering ten goals in 48 appearances last season. Beginning his career at Red Bull feeder club Liefering in the Austrian lower tiers, Szoboszlai progressed onwards to Salzburg, before his 2021 transfer to the German Bundesliga. With 32 caps and 7 goals for his national side, the attacking midfielder has shone recently on the international stage, playing a starring role in Hungary's wins over the likes of Germany and England. The Athletic also report that Liverpool retains an interest in Nice's Khephren Thuram, son of World Cup winner Lilian, and also rate Southampton's Romeo Lavia highly.
