Liverpool held talks to sign new goalkeeper the night before Champions League final

Jurgen Klopp should be under no illusions that his current goalkeepers are not up to scratch.

Everything worth saying about Loris Karius has already been said and there is no point compounding the young 'keeper's heartbreak by banging on about his errors in Saturday's Champions League final but it remains clear that neither Karius nor Simon Mignolet are world class. Liverpool are set to attempt to remedy their goalkeeping issue in the coming months, however, and have been linked with several 'keepers this summer, with Roma stopper Alisson Becker their top target. But the Merseyside club are also looking at other options and reportedly held preliminary talks to sign one on the eve of their clash with Real Madrid. Ukrainian outlet Zbirna report that Liverpool representatives held a meeting at a Kiev hotel with Zorya Luhansk chief executive Sergey Rafailov the night before the Reds fell to a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid. Klopp is keen to add Zorya stopper Andriy Lunin to his ranks, with the 19-year-old impressing for his club this season in both the Ukrainian league and the Europa League. Lunin made his international debut two months ago and is being backed for a bright future between the sticks, earning attention from clubs like Inter Milan, Napoli and Everton. Liverpool are believed to be one of the favourites to land the youngster's signature, with Napoli said to be their toughest competition. "Indeed, we met with representatives of two English clubs, but I would not like to advertise their names yet," Rafailov admitted.
