Liverpool strikers receive mixed reviews from Belgium boss after ‘worst performance’

Belgium kept the pressure on Wales at the head of Group B but boss Marc Wilmots was far from happy with their 1-0 win over Cyprus

A late Eden Hazard goal gave the world's No.2 side victory in Nicosia but Wilmots was furious with his side's display, labelling it 'the worst team performance I have seen'. Liverpool frontmen Christian Benteke and Divock Origi both featured and received vastly different reviews from their manager. Benteke, who missed Thursday's victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina with a slight injury, started against Cyprus but was withdrawn at half-time after completing just four passes. Wilmots described the £32.5million signing's effort as a 'half performance' although it is unclear how much his display was influenced by his injury. Benteke was replaced by Origi who, in contrast, received a glowing report from Wilmots. "The contribution of Origi and (Dries) Mertens in the second half was important, because I wanted quick combinations. As a result, in the last half hour we were often dangerous," Wilmots said. Hazard also came in for harsh criticism, despite his match-winning contribution. "He (Hazard) was the worst tonight. I thought about substituting him, but in the last 10 minutes he always has the ability to do that. At the World Cup, this was the case. "I obviously expect more from him, but he will grow as the season progresses."
