Man United considering shock Memphis Depay transfer

Depay could make a surprise return to Old Trafford.

With a few days of the window remaining, transfer silly season is in full swing, with Manchester United's reported quest to sign every forward with a pulse now seeing them linked with a surprise move for former forward, Memphis Depay. With Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford still up in the air, it's thought Erik ten Hag is searching for reinforcements for his frontline. And seeing as Depay is a) a forward, and b) Dutch, he's now thought to be a serious option. The 28-year-old left United for Lyon in January 2017. He moved to Barcelona last year, but the club's financial issues mean those in charge at the Camp Nou are willing to move him on to get him off the wage bill. Having been strongly linked with a move to Juventus, Marca now claim United are a serious option and could table a bid of around £8m to make it possible. Juve now appear to have turned their attention to signing Arkadiusz Milik from Marseille, opening the door for United to snap up their former player. The Dutch international had reportedly agree ond a contract termination with Barca ahead of a prospective move to Turin. Why, then, United would need to pay a fee to sign him, is unclear. Aside from Memphis, United continue to be strongly linked with a big-money move for Ajax winger Antony, as well as PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo. Erik ten Hag has already signed Antony's former Ajax teammate Lisandro Martinez, along with Christian Eriksen (another former Ajax player) and Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord. Despite a rocky start to the Premier League campaign with defeats to Brighton and Brentford, United beat Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night to claim their first points of the Ten Hag era.
