Solskjaer may not be spending big this summer after all

It was expected to be a big summer at Old Trafford. With several senior stars expected to depart Manchester United, reports have claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will spend big as he attempts to overhaul his team. The likes of Jadon Sancho has already been strongly linked with a move to United, with Solskjaer himself appearing to concede his squad needed significant investment if it is to compete with Europe's elite. Despite this, United may not be in for a busy summer in the transfer market at all. Speaking ahead of his side's Premier League encounter with Everton on Sunday afternoon, Solskjaer acknowledged that there will be fewer than six summer arrivals at Old Trafford because he doesn't want to hinder the progress of some of the club's young talent. "I don't think you can expect six players coming in - I know there won't be six players coming in," the Norwegian said. "We can't just take players in because we need a body," he added, before naming three of his young stars he hoped would flourish by being given more first team opportunities.

"Mason Greenwood is a player for me - he is 17 and I want to give him the chance to become a top player at this club.

"It's the same with Marcus Rashford at 21 and Diogo Dalot at 20. These players are going to get a chance and that is going to affect players who are at the other end of their careers.

"It means you don't want too many changes with signings and you have to say to players at the other end of their careers: "I don't think you're for me"."
