Manchester United have their eyes set on a up and coming Premier League star to replace Casemiro in the summer.
Casemiro is expected to depart Old Trafford in the coming months after a stop-start season that has seen him miss plenty of game time through injury and struggle to replicate his form from the previous year.
As part of their new transfer model under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United want to move away from big-name signings and one player they have in mind is Wolves’ Joao Gomes.According to The Mirror, the Red Devils believe he is the perfect candidate to replace Casemiro.
Gomes joined from Flamengo in January 2023 and has two goals and one assist from 28 Premier League appearances this campaign.
He could also make his international debut for Brazil against England on Saturday.
Tottenham and Newcastle are also rumoured to be interested but any move for the 23-year-old would likely have to be in the region of £40m and above to persuade Wolves to sell.
Ratcliffe is keen to get some of the club’s high earners off the books to reinvest in the squad, making Casemiro a likely option when it comes to leaving.
Joining in 2022, the 31-year-old is one of the club’s highest paid players on a salary of £350,000-a-week.
Sides in Saudi Arabia are said to be closely monitoring his situation and may make a move at the end of the season.
