Manchester United to appoint technical director to work with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United will appoint a technical director before the start of next season.

While United were initially said to be looking to bring in their first ever director of football, they have now decided to rename the role and are close to making the appointment official according to Manchester Evening News. Now that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been tied down to a three-year deal with the Red Devils, the club is looking to confirm a technical director sooner rather than later to work alongside the Norwegian. At a press conference on Monday, Solskjaer revealed that he will be consulted before any appointment is made and he is in regular talks with United's executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, on the matter. "Yeah, I've got an input in most of the things now - and my advice, of course," Solskjaer said. "And I’ve got to say, the communication between me Ed and the owners is very good. "We discuss different names. I am not the one who decides." United have made no secret of their plans to restructure the hierarchy of the club and the incoming technical director will be tasked with strengthening options for the first team squad as well as bolstering the long-term outlook of the club's academy programme. Several names have been linked with the position and MEN report that Head of scouting Marcel Bout and head of development John Murtough are potential candidates.
