Reports in Italy say Man United have made contact with Juventus manager

Despite a report claiming he would be shown the Old Trafford door regardless of the result in his team's last league outing against Newcastle, Mourinho remains in charge at United - reportedly plotting to bring in new defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window. Talk that he may be on borrowed time, however, refuses to die down. While reports linking Zinedine Zidane with Mourinho's job appear to have cooled slightly over the international break, a report from Italy now claim that United have been in touch with Juventus boss, Massimiliano Allegri. Calciomercato claim United have sounded out Allegri's entourage about the possibility of replacing Mourinho, receiving a 'positive' response from them. Allegri will bring his Juventus side to Old Trafford in the next couple of weeks as the Italian champions hope to continue their 100% record in this season's Champions League. The report adds that he is committed to Juve and their aspirations of ending their 23-year wait for a European Cup. Allegri took charge at Juventus following the departure of Antonio Conte in 2014. He's maintained their dominance of Serie A, also guiding them to the 2015 and 2017 Champions League finals. Considering the squad he currently has at his disposal, it's difficult to imagine Allegri, whose contract expires in 20202, leaving Turin before the end of the season. Should he guide Juve to a long-awaited European crown this season, he may then just fancy accepting the challenge of restoring United to their former glories. Whether a new manager is required at Old Trafford before then is another matter.
