Manchester United set to begin summer spending as they ‘reach agreement’ on first big signing

Manchester United have reached a €52m deal with Inter Milan to sign their Croatian winger Ivan Perisic, according to Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport.

United's desire to secure the services of the Croation emerged last weekend, but ensuing reports revealed that they were unable to reach an agreement with Inter Milan over the 28-year-old. Perisic scored 11 goals and registered eight assists in 36 Serie A appearances last season. Mourinho, meanwhile, is still looking to secure his first summer signing for United after the Manchester club were dealt a major blow in their chase of Antoine Griezmann. The confirmation of Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban means that the France international is staying in La Liga, which forces Mourinho to focus on other targets.

It appears the Croatian will be the first of the Red Devil's signings, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that the clubs have agreed on a fee and all that is left to complete the deal, will be finalising personal terms with Perisic. That won't halt United's attempts to sign the Croatian, who according to reports, met with Mourinho in Zagreb last March. Inter are being forced to sell at least one of their key players before the end of the month in order to meet Financial Fair Play regulations, and to prevent their summer transfer budget from being reduced. Perisic had an infamous falling out with the now Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp when he worked under the German at Borussia Dortmund, with Klopp labelling the Croatian as 'childish' before commissioning his sale to rivals Wolfsburg.
