Manchester United won’t be following Carlow GAA’s lead by selling the naming right to their stadium

We have a big problem with stadiums undergoing name changes all for a bit of extra cash. We're still trying to get our heads around the fact that Carlow's home games are now at the 'Netwatch' Cullen Park while a little bit of our soul dies every time that we have to write the 'Ethiad' or the 'Emirates'. It's just not right. Give us Parnell Park or Anfield or Stamford Bridge anyday thanks. So we're glad to hear this afternoon that Manchester United have shelved plans to sell the rights to one of the most famous grounds in world football. According to The Telegraph the Glazers realise that any possible sale of naming rights for Old Trafford would further turn fans against the club's owners, as the American's get ready to mark 10 years in charge of the club. It's believed that any naming rights deal would be worth over €30million euro-per-year but the owners have decided that this is money they will have to forego for the sake of a quiet life. Well a quiet life, and the fact that an almost certain return to the Champions League as well as their new shirt deal with Adidas means there is plenty of cash coming into the club. Arsenal currently earn a reported €40million per year for their deal with Emirates, while Manchester City are looking to milk some more money from their current agreement with Ethiad which is believed to be worth almost €50million However it seems at least for the moment that any chance that Manchester United will be placing at the M&M Theatre of football is a long way off.
