“When you think of commentary, you think of Martin Tyler. ‘Collymore closing in’ [from Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Newcastle in 1996] and ‘Aguerrrrrroooooooooo’ are two of the greatest moments in Premier League history.
“We thank him and wish him all the very best for the future.”
Tyler’s departure is the latest for Sky Sports’ Premier League coverage. Last month, Jeff Stelling stepped down from Soccer Saturday after hosting the much-loved show for more than a quarter of a century.
And this season also saw the surprise departure of Graeme Souness as a pundit, after 15 years in the role.
Reacting to the news, one person said: “Sad day for football, what a legend he is!”
Another wrote: “God tier commentator & the soundtrack to the premier league & so many legendary moments.
“As a Gooner I instantly think Adams goal against Everton, Wiltord vs Utd, Overmars vs Utd etc Then think Liverpool vs Newcastle 4-3 & of course, THAT Aguero moment.
“Salute to him.”
