Mick McCarthy sacked by APOEL, just days after Jack Byrne joined the club

Only two months into the job, Mick McCarthy has been sacked by the notoriously ruthless board at Cyprus club APOEL.

Having overseen four straight defeats, the former Republic of Ireland manager was yet to record a win at his new club. APOEL lost the game 2-1 to rivals Doxa, with Byrne entering the fray in the 86th minute of the game. McCarthy is believed to have played a big role in bringing the Dubliner to the club and it remains to be seen how he will fit into the new manager's plans. Local media have already installed former Cyprus international Savvas Poursaitidis as the favourite to take the job.
