Now, a tweet from Football Twitter's esteemed transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed that there was substance to the speculation linking Skriniar with a switch to north London.
Should the transfer go ahead, Romano states it will not involve a swap with Tanguy Ndombele, as was previously suggested in some reports. Inter are said to have asked for €60m (£55m) for the player which, at this moment in time, may be beyond Spurs' reach.
Skriniar's arrival may be subject to Tottenham selling a player to free up funds first. Despite rumours that Dele Alli was set to leave the club - fuelled by his absence from the Spurs' last two matchday squads - this has so far failed to materialise. While Real Madrid are said to have rejected the opportunity to sign the England international, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in taking him across the Channel.
Following their dismal showing in their Premier League opener against Everton, Mourinho was able to bolster his ranks with the signings of Sergio Reguilon and Spurs fan favourite Gareth Bale from Real Madrid. Prior to that, they have also brought in Matt Doherty from Wolves and Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg from Southampton, as well as picking up Joe Hart on a free transfer.
With a matter of days to go, you wouldn't bet against there being at least one more addition.
