Nathan Redmond denies lipreader’s claims about what Pep Guardiola said to him

Nathan Redmond has moved to deny claims made by a lip reader in an article posted by The Sun, referring to his on-pitch interaction with Pep Guardiola on Wednesday night.

Redmond's Southampton team lost 2-1 to Manchester City at The Etihad, Raheem Sterling scoring the winning goal with virtually the last kick of the game. After full-time, footage of an animated Guardiola speaking to Redmond was widely circulated on social media. The article on The Sun featured claims from a lip reader, who suggested that the City boss had called Redmond a "w****r". The lip reader, who has worked for the Met Police, Prison Service and the NHS, also claimed that Guardiola accused Redmond of "taking him for a mug". Redmond tweeted a statement on Thursday evening in which he made clear that Guardiola did not say any of the things claimed in the article.

'I've just seen this story and felt I had to say something and clear a few things that are floating around right now. I want to make it absolutely clear that the Man City manager Pep Guardiola did not say what The Sun is falsely claiming in this story. Yes he was very passionate, intense and aggressive but he was only very complimentary and positive to me. He commented on my qualities as a young English player and how he wanted me to attack his team more during the game in a similar way to last season. I told him I was doing what my manager had asked me to do in the game. That's it. Nothing more, noting less. Nothing negative or offensive was said towards me from Pep and that's what makes him one of the best managers in world football.'
