Neil Warnock gives a damning verdict on Frank Lampard’s Everton

'I don't see the leaders in the Everton squad.'

Neil Warnock spoke about Frank Lampard's inexperience of being embroiled in a relegation fight as manager of Everton. The 73-year-old highlighted his concern at the lack of leaders in the dressing room at Goodison Park. Everton are currently 17th in the Premier League. The Toffees sit outside of the relegation zone by goal difference with 12 games to play.

The former Cardiff City boss discussed Lampard's managerial success at Chelsea. Lampard got a young squad under a transfer ban to finish in the top four of the Premier League. Lampard has lost five out of his six league games in charge of the Toffees so far as Everton stare down the relegation trap. Warnock emphasised managing at the bottom of the league in a relegation battle is a 'horrible' task to endure, “He got the Chelsea job because they’ve got all those kids and they were embargoed. He did ever so well for Chelsea and helped them win the Champions League with what he did at the club," Warnock told talkSPORT. “I don’t think he’s ever been in this situation as a manager. It’s not a nice situation, it’s horrible being down there. “Sometimes you can’t see what’s going to happen, the mirror is all blurred.”

Warnock referenced the leadership qualities of Lampard's teammates during his playing career at Stanford Bridge, in comparison to the Everton squad at his disposal now. He suggested Lampard needs help on the pitch to drive the standards from a playing perspective. “Do you think they’ve got your John Terry’s at the back, someone who is going to grab hold of someone by the shirt? “I don’t see that in the squad. Frank needs help on the pitch, he needs one or two people in that dressing room when things aren’t going right. “I might be wrong, but I don’t see the leaders.”
