Nemanja Matic has lifted the lid on what it was like behind the scenes at Manchester United, revealing that there were two players that always made their teammates angry.
Matic joined the Red Devils back in 2017 and spent five years at the club before joining Roma at the start of the 2022/2023 season.
Before joining United, Matic was an influential member of a Chelsea squad that was hugely successful and when comparing the two teams, the Serbian international believed that the west London outfit were the more professional of the two.
“At Chelsea, players acted professionally, they were punctual and were never late for training but at United it happened almost every day,” he said speaking to YouTube channel YU Planet.
He then went on to single out two individuals, adding: “Among the players who would always be late were Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho and couple of other players.”
Pogba left United in the same summer as Matic, returning to Juventus whereas Sancho is still at United but has been frozen out of the first team by manager Erik ten Hag for publicly challenging his reasons for dropping him for the Arsenal game in September.
Sancho has been linked with a reunion with Pogba at Juventus while a return to Borussia Dortmund is seemingly off the cards due to his inflated wages.
‘During one particular season we collected around £75,000 in fines’
In order to combat the lack of discipline at the club, Matic revealed how he and some of his fellow teammates tried to eradicate the problem and raise money for their Christmas party.
“The rest of us who were always on time were angry so we decided to form a kind of an internal disciplinary committee with me serving as its president,” the midfielder added.
“I put a sheet of paper up on the wall where I documented the names of individuals arriving late. During one particular season we collected around £75,000 in fines.
“We had planned to use the money to throw a party in London but we didn’t due to the Covid outbreak.”
