Neymar found guilty of tax evasion in Brazil and Spanish courts are investigating him too

Neymar has been ordered to pay over €46 million after being found guilty of tax evasion.

The Barcelona star was ruled to have failed to pay tax on earnings from his contracts between 2011 and 2013. Those contracts included former club Santos, Barcelona and Nike. The federal court in Rio de Janeiro ordered him to pay 188.8 million Brazilian reals (46.22 million euros) in back taxes, interest and fines. Neymar has denied the charges and still has the right to appeal. His move to Barca in 2013 is currently being investigated by courts in Spain too after allegations that Barcelona and Santos and the player concealed the full cost of the transfer. A Brazilian investment fund called DIS claimed that it was cheated of its rightful share of the transfer deal, said by Barcelona to be worth €57.1 million - but Spanish prosecutors believe the transfer was actually more than €83 million. And DIS were acquiring 40 per cent of Neymar's sporting rights at the time before he left Santos to join Barcelona. A Brazilian court moved last month to freeze £32 million worth of assets belonging to Neymar - of which properties, a private jet and a yacht were included.
