WATCH: Northern Ireland’s away friendly record slightly less terrible thanks to Craig Cathcart’s goal

Northern Ireland fans who travel to their side's away friendly matches must be commended for their loyalty as they rarely see their side score in such matches. In fact, up until Thursday night, Northern Ireland had only scored one friendly goal away in the last nine-and-a-half years, which came courtesy of Stuart Dallas during their win over Qatar at Gresty Road in May 2015. However, that all changed with Craig Cathcart's tidy finish against Wales. The effort doubled his side's friendly away tally for nearly the last decade. Unfortunately for Northern Ireland, they failed to seize a golden opportunity to register their first win over Wales in 26 years. Gareth McAuley took Simon Church out of it with two minutes left in normal time. The referee didn't hesitate to award Wales a penalty which was coolly converted by Church. The game finished 1-1. Norn Iron's 0-1 victory at the 1980 British Home Championships marked the last time they slayed the dragons.
