At a public event in Lillestrøm on Thursday, the former Manchester United striker, who helped Sir Alex Ferguson’s side to the Treble in 1999, talked about his managerial career.

In front of a crowd of 3,000 people at Oslo Business Forum, Solskjaer was asked about a potential return to Old Trafford and he didn’t immediately rule it out.

As reported by Norwegian outlet VG, he said: “If your family asks you, you say yes, every day of the week. It feels wrong to talk about jobs other people have. But I say yes.”

United threw away a 1-0 lead against FC Twente in the Europa League on Wednesday night and could only come away with a draw.

Ten Hag came under fire from the media in his post-match press conference after his side also drew last weekend in the Premier League to Crystal Palace.

He told reporters: “If you lose at the top, you always have a problem, no matter which coach.

“The board knows that we are in a process and that we are building. It is much calmer now. If we are a few months further, I think we can really build a nice team.

“I’m used to that. That was the case at Ajax and it’s the case here. These are clubs that are always in the spotlight. Everyone has an opinion about it. You have to deal with that and not let it distract you.”

Solskjaer joined United from Norwegian side Molde. He took charge of 168 games at United and finished with a win percentage of 54 per cent.
